In early November 2017 I attended a seminar for translators in Frankfurt, Germany’s financial capital, not far from the euro sculpture. The seminar focused on financial market regulation and was organised by the Hesse chapter of the German Federal Association of Translators and Interpreters (BDÜ).
Attending the seminar enabled me to broaden my expertise in financial translation, a very dry but also fascinating subject. After all, bank regulation plays a key role in financial translation, and mastering its specific terminology is a must.
The seminar was presented by Konrad Tomica, a former banker and a certified German to English financial translator. Mr Tomica talked about bank’s liquidity, capital and solvency requirements and gave us an overview of the background, history and triggers of the financial crisis.
The legal framework and regulatory reforms in the banking sector were also discussed. To top it all, attendees received comprehensive seminar materials.
