The German Federal Association of Translators and Interpreters (BDÜ) – Rhineland-Palatinate chapter – organised another interesting workshop for legal translators in Mainz on 4-5 November 2016. It was a two-day CPD activity with presentations, group discussions and translation exercises focusing on British company law, under the supervision of British barrister and translator Richard Delaney.
For me, this workshop was especially interesting, as most of my legal translations are not from English but from German into Brazilian Portuguese, and I was able to benefit from an overview of the British legal system. On the other hand, the group translation exercises – from German into English and vice-versa – were an intellectual challenge, as I never translate in these language directions and use both English and German as source languages.
